New York, NY — Great Place to Work and Fortune magazine have honored AbleTo as one of this year’s Best Workplaces in New York. This is AbleTo’s first time being named to this prestigious list, coming in at 34th place. Earning this distinction means that AbleTo is one of the best companies to work for, that is headquartered in New York.

This year’s Best Workplaces in New York award is based on employee feedback collected through America’s largest ongoing annual workforce study of over 1 million employee survey responses and data from companies representing more than 6.1 million U.S. employees. In that survey, 85% of AbleTo’s employees said AbleTo is a great place to work, compared to 57% of employees at a typical U.S. based company.

“People First is one of our core values, taking care of those in need above everything else. We wouldn’t be able to do that without the commitment and unwavering passion our employees bring to work every day,” said Stephanie Carroll, AbleTo Chief People Officer. “I am honored to announce that in addition to being a Best Workplace in New York, AbleTo is also certified a Great Place to Work for the last two consecutive years. We are incredibly grateful for all they do to earn this incredible honor.”

The Best Workplaces in New York list is highly competitive. Great Place to Work, the global authority on workplace culture, selected the list using rigorous analytics and confidential employee feedback. Companies were only considered if they are a Great Place to Work-Certified™ organization and headquartered in the New York metropolitan statistical area.

Great Place to Work is the only company culture award in America that selects winners based on how fairly employees are treated. Companies are assessed on how well they create a great employee experience that cuts across race, gender, age, disability status, or any aspect of who employees are or their role.

“As employee demands and expectations have dramatically changed over the past year, these companies have risen to the occasion—and it’s not been easy,” says Kim Peters, executive vice president of global recognition, research & strategic partnerships at Great Place to Work. “Their hard work and dedication to listen to and care for the well-being of every employee, and support them in a way that’s meaningful to all, is the standard all organizations will be held to.”

For over 100 years, social workers have supported the unmet needs of many vulnerable communities. This year, we celebrate and showcase their journeys, through the stories of two of our compassionate, experienced social workers at AbleTo, and learn why they chose this career, their advice for preventing clinician burnout, and tips for clinicians considering new careers in telehealth.

Today, social workers are currently the largest source of providers in the space. “Social workers are fueled by a passion for helping others” says licensed clinical social worker, Allison Montick, SVP, Clinical Network and Operations. “When demand for care skyrocketed during the COVID-19 pandemic, social workers rose to the occasion, helping millions get care, and supporting people through an intense time of stress, anxiety, and depression. As part of the broader healthcare community, AbleTo’s social workers, alongside all of our therapists, coaches, clinical leaders and specialists, worked tirelessly to empower people to overcome their emotional struggles, get better and stay better.”

Social work is one of the fastest growing careers in the U.S. and will continue to play a significant role in helping to bridge the current mental health gap for those in need. A new initiative invites consumers, therapists, and leading organizations to take a global pause and commit to a positive mental health action during October.

AbleTo, a leading provider of high-quality, virtual behavioral health care, announced today a national, month-long pledge inviting people to “Take Time” to check in on their mental health in honor of World Mental Health Day on Sunday, October 10th.

“The pandemic has accelerated public awareness of mental health,” says AbleTo Chief Executive Officer Trip Hofer. “Demand for care has skyrocketed, and we’re indebted to our front-line providers who have risen to meet that challenge. As we collectively navigate the new normal, it doesn’t always leave time for mental health, whether you’re an exhausted front-line worker, a busy working parent, or a leader of a global organization. For World Mental Health Day, we want to help people take a collective moment to make mental health a priority every day for healthier, happier lives.”

AbleTo is joined by pledge partners and non-profits including the National Alliance on Mental Illness of New York City (NAMI-NYC), Sanvello, the Chicago Bulls, American astronaut Scott Kelly, and NYC Health Business Leaders to help educate and encourage action towards positive health.

“Greater education, removing stigmas, and bridging the gap between need and treatment is a shared mission for both our organizations,” says Matt Kudish, Executive Director of NAMI-NYC. “We’re thrilled to partner with AbleTo to make progress towards a world where everyone prioritizes and takes action on their mental health.”

AbleTo invites the public to visit AbleTo.com/TakeTime and commit to take time for mental health in the following ways:

  • Sign the pledge to represent a personal commitment towards making a positive change during the month
  • Access a free mental health toolkit including self-care exercises and self-guided meditation
  • Consider donating to NAMI, the largest grassroots organization focused on mental health in the US, to enable greater education and awareness of mental health. To amplify efforts, AbleTo will make a direct donation on behalf of people signing the pledge.

AbleTo Launches New Digital Experience to Lower Barriers to Quality Mental Health Care

NEW YORK, June 30, 2021 – AbleTo, a leading provider of high-quality virtual behavioral health care, announced today the launch of a new clinically-guided, fully-integrated digital experience across all programs to help members get to the most appropriate care that fits their needs. The launch includes AbleTo Connect, a digital engine that guides members to the right level of care, and the new AbleTo app, a single place to find all AbleTo resources and newly enhanced support features.

“Payers are overwhelmed with the number of solutions available to their members, and having to manage those solutions,” said AbleTo Chief Executive Officer Trip Hofer. “Members are also daunted by the barriers to finding care that works for them. We’re committed to providing evidence-based care with effective outcomes based on a member’s unique needs. There’s no ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution to mental health care.”

The new integrated features and behavioral health support include:

  • AbleTo Connect is the new digital engine where members complete a robust clinical screener with a health history and personal preferences that help them navigate to the AbleTo product best suited to their needs and schedule their first appointment.
  • The new AbleTo app, which is the single point of access for all AbleTo’s products: Therapy360, Therapy+ and Digital+ (formerly Joyable). Members can use the AbleTo app to access program resources, manage their account, view upcoming sessions, practice Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)-based techniques between sessions, and more. The AbleTo app is now available on iOS, Android, and Web.
  • AbleTo Therapy+, which offers one-on-one sessions with a licensed therapist and digital tools for those with moderate to high mental health needs, now includes new features designed to strengthen the participant and therapist connection. Members unlock new digital activities each week that build on the clinical protocol and practice between sessions. These activities are viewed by the therapist to assess progress and build into the following session. The enhancements will begin with the depression program and roll out across Therapy+ programs over the next year.

For more than a decade, AbleTo has designed evidence-based programs with 97% patient satisfaction. Notably, the company has made meaningful improvements in member outcomes backed by rigorous program evaluation research—including more than 12 peer-reviewed studies, scientific abstracts, and reports.

“The path to better mental health must combine access, quality and outcomes,” says Chief Product Officer Peter Shalek. “Our new clinically guided member experience does just that, ensuring lower costs, better results, and healthier patients. We’re advancing the science of how people get to the right care, and it’s an important step forward for the industry.”

WellCare and AbleTo Partner to Bring Virtual Behavioral Healthcare to Medicare Advantage Members in New York

NEW YORK and TAMPA, July 11, 2019 — WellCare Health Plans, Inc., (NYSE: WCG) and AbleTo, a leading provider of virtual behavioral healthcare, announced today the launch of a new program to serve WellCare’s Medicare Advantage members in New York.

Nearly 44 million Americans experience mental illness in a given year, yet 60% of adults didn’t receive treatment in the U.S. last year. Unaddressed behavioral health conditions can significantly impact a person’s overall health and well-being.

Working with the WellCare team, AbleTo analyzes health data and identifies members who would benefit from treatment, and then delivers that care virtually or over the telephone through a nationwide network of skilled professionals. Members work with a therapist and coach for up to eight weeks of personalized care. AbleTo’s evidence-based, structured treatment improves clinical outcomes and reduces medical costs.

“The costs of untreated behavioral health needs are significant, attributing to poor clinical outcomes and increased medical costs,” said Trip Hofer, CEO of AbleTo. “Our high-quality virtual care meets patients where they are physically and emotionally with evidence-based, personalized treatment programs that helps better the overall health of members and lower costs of care.”

One in five Americans experience mental illness in a given year, yet less than half seek out treatment due to the associated stigma or outside barriers to care such as lack of health insurance or transportation issues,” said Sander Koyfman, WellCare’s behavioral health medical director in New York. “At WellCare, we’re excited to partner with AbleTo to offer our members access to high-quality behavioral healthcare options in a convenient, appropriate setting.”

AbleTo virtual behavioral healthcare services are available to all WellCare Medicare Advantage members in the state of New York.

As of March 31, 2019, WellCare serves approximately 310,000 members in New York, including 157,000 Medicaid members, 89,000 Medicare Advantage plan members and 64,000 Medicare Prescription Drug Plan members.

AbleTo Acquires Joyable to Further Increase Access to High-Quality Behavioral Health Care

Shared focus on clinically-sound care offers natural alignment for continued innovation

NEW YORK, March 6, 2019 – AbleTo, Inc., a leading provider of virtual behavioral health care proven to improve clinical outcomes and lower health care costs, today announced that it has acquired Joyable, an app-based digital therapy innovator. The acquisition strengthens AbleTo’s high-quality virtual behavioral health care with a digital platform that delivers clinically-based therapies supported by coaches to help individuals overcome depression, generalized anxiety, and social anxiety.

“Joyable’s clinically-focused, digital treatment program is the perfect complement for AbleTo’s evidence-based virtual care,” said AbleTo CEO Trip Hofer. “Combining our strong programs and talented teams to create a more integrated approach to delivering behavioral health care will further expand access, drive a better experience for patients, and create more value for our clients.”

According to Mental Health America, more than 50% of people living with behavioral health needs do not get the necessary treatment. Virtual and digital therapy help solve for the critical challenges like care shortages, stigma, and cost that prevent many from accessing care. AbleTo and Joyable both help to address the problem of access through the use of technology to deliver care to individuals when and where they want. Both also employ Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to ensure high quality treatment that results in their proven ability to significantly improve health.

While AbleTo provides treatment virtually through a network of more than 600 therapists and coaches, Joyable’s platform offers users expert-designed digital engagement with a coach. Their approach has been proven to drive 10 times the engagement of other digital therapies with outcomes that match face-to-face therapy.

“Joyable was founded on the idea that everyone should be able to access high-quality behavioral health care. Joining AbleTo will allow us to expand our mission with a team that shares the same goal,” said Joyable Co-founder and CEO Peter Shalek. “I am excited for Joyable to become part of a larger effort and continue to build and grow with our combined capabilities.”

“For people living with unmet behavioral health needs, the expanded reach of AbleTo through Joyable’s digital platform means millions more people will get the help they need,” added Hofer. “For AbleTo’s clients and partners, the combined capabilities and a commitment to continue innovating together means a greater impact on populations that would benefit from access to high-quality behavioral health care.”

Mr. Shalek will join the AbleTo executive team as Chief Product Officer, leading product strategy and development across the combined organizations.

AbleTo is proven to improve health and reduce medical costs with evidence-based behavioral health care.

The investment by Optum Ventures recognizes the high cost of unmet behavioral health needs, access challenges for individuals and the growing demand for more proactive solutions to address the problem. AbleTo’s data-driven approach is making a significant impact on the behavioral health care landscape, and the new partnership with Optum Ventures aligns with the need to foster continued innovation.

“We’ve proved huge value in treating the underlying behavioral health needs that accompany chronic and complex conditions,” said Trip Hofer, CEO of AbleTo. “We are excited to partner with Optum Ventures on our journey to create a better approach to behavioral health care for the millions of people in need.”

“AbleTo’s behavioral health solutions have a meaningful effect on total cost of care, productivity and overall well-being,” said Stephen Renfro, Principal, Optum Ventures. “AbleTo is changing the way people access and experience behavioral health care, and we look forward to working with AbleTo to drive further innovative solutions.”

Optum Ventures joins a syndicate of earlier AbleTo investors: .406 Ventures, Aetna, Bain Capital Ventures, HLM Venture Partners, Horizon Healthcare Services, Inc. and Sandbox Industries.
